UCSB Library Introduces New Course Reserves Site for Spring 2016

The UCSB Library has launched a new platform for making Course Reserves submissions, starting with materials for the spring 2016 quarter. Previously, submissions for Course and Electronic Reserves had to be done separately. The new system, now simply called Course Reserves, is an all-in-one platform for placing print and electronic materials on reserve.

Instructors will be able to:

  1. Submit what were previously called Course and Electronic Reserves lists in the same place.
  2. Upload PDFs for staff to place on Course Reserves.
  3. View the status of requested materials.
  4. View materials and courses from previous quarters and clone or reactivate these materials.
  5.  Add tags to materials.

Students will be able to:

  1. View Course Reserves lists.
  2. View the status of requested materials.
  3. Access Course Reserves materials available electronically.
  4. Sort materials into favorites.

To log on to the new website, https://ares.library.ucsb.edu/ares/, you need your UCSB NetID and password. You can then submit, view, reactivate, and use your Course Reserves.

New instructors who log onto the Course Reserves platform for the first time will not see a list of their courses until the next day.

The deadline for submitting Course Reserves lists for the spring 2016 quarter is March 11, 2016. Requests or submissions after this deadline may not be available on Course Reserves at the beginning of the spring quarter.

Please note that for spring quarter, instructors will still have the option to use the current online form located here:

However, starting in summer 2016, the Web Tracker will be entirely phased out and replaced by the Course Reserves portal.

For all Course Reserves questions, please contact rbs@library.ucsb.edu or 893-4183.
